Holy creepy

It's like that creature in Toy Story, as done by Sam Raimi instead of Pixar.

duplex2 responds:

Many thanks, I love the evil dead trilogy.

Bevel

Excellent composition. A few points of constructive criticism:
- Bevel the edges: plastic tools don't have such sharp angles.
- The IOR on your glass objects generally seems too high. Why, for example, is there a black line on the upper edge of the syringes?
- Specularity: the glass and needle need a sharper, more pronounced specularity, while the plastic needs almost no specularity.
- Your main light is in the upper-left behind the syringes, correct? Add another, half-energy light in the lower-right to fill out the shadows on the plungers.

Mostly good

The razors and glass look great, which actually makes the unrealistic ice stand out.

The ice needs a lower IOR, and although the surface features are excellent, it needs some internal texturing (you know those white spokes that form in your ice cube tray). Right now, they kind of look like mirrors.

Also, LOVE the lipstick texture!

Little-Bacchus responds:

Thanks for a great review :D To be honest I never thought of the little lines in the ice... shows you should always use a reference as now you have said it they do look missing. You are right though it is the ice that lets it down.

Shadows!!

Fantastic lighting and detail. I am especially a fan of that eye.

Wonderfully real

This is a fantastic still-life of a complicated-looking but geometrically straightforward object. You put a lot of effort into this, and it shows, and at anything but the maximum resolution, there are no clues that this isn't a photograph for an advertisement.
The only give-away is that the reflections of the knobs in the main plate are too perfect, but this is a ubiquitous problem for all 3D software: if you find a work-around to too-perfect reflections, ... tell me! :-) Great stuff!

Awesome

Great imagery and colors! It really feels deep in multiple ways.

BenTibbetts responds:

Thanks!

Subtle

The differences are very subtle, but they're there. It's almost too subtle. Frankly, it was a matter of luck that I even looked hard enough to see a difference between top and bottom. Good stuff!

mindmaster123 responds:

Thanks I'm glad I was wrong not the first ;)

Awesome

This is a really cool image. I love the glow of the sun and soft tones!

The only technical comment I have is that the sky's stripes do funny things near the horizon. Maybe anti-aliasing would smooth that out, if that's what you want. Great stuff!

BenTibbetts responds:

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!

Seriously?

I personally feel that this is an insult to your audience's intelligence. There's no subject, no vision, and no effort from you. One light and a dozen cubes? You've done some awesome stuff, but this is crap. Why should it be on the Art Portal? Conversely, why shouldn't it be reported as "bad art" (NG FAQ)?

BenTibbetts responds:

Thanks for the review.

I have a thing for brunettes. And long hair. And glasses. And nerds. And women in pastels. I also only find artistic rendering of females attractive if they are extraordinarily well drawn. So ... yeah, 5/5, 10/10.

whitedevil0404 responds:

wow, awesome dude, thanks!

I don't spend much time here anymore, but it's nice to see the site still with its wide spread of user-generated content.
