Fantastic concept

I like this piece a lot, particularly the idea. Excellent color contrast. The stark difference between the objects and the amorphous background.

One comment: you can see the polygons on the human figure. They should be smoothed out because, right now, they distract the audience and remind everyone that this was rendered by a computer.

gleegleep responds:

Thank you for the review. I'm glad you like this! And thanks for the suggestion about smoothing the human figure.

I was going to say ...

that it lacked humanity. Then I read your description, and I applaud you since that was what you were going for! The grainy quality is really nice, and even thought the model is simple, the tone is well-considered and well-excuted. Great!

BenTibbetts responds:

Thank you!

Perfect feel

The picture feels perfect. The color scheme makes it cold; the detail on the characters and the blurriness of the background make you focus on them and their relationship; and the lack of any faces make the characters detached and their humanity becomes unimportant. Only a touch of red on the helmet indicates any emotion: bloodlust. In short, this is great.

Rhunyc responds:

Hey man, I appreciate that. Thanks a bunch for the nice words. :)

Great interpretation, by the way, quite interesting what some people see in my art. :)

Good

Generally, very good, me likey. But, there are some inconsistencies in the levels of detail. The muscles are smooth, but the teeth and eyes are rough. There's a vein in the left should (awesome) but similar details could easily go on the face or the abs. Fantastic project, and I only comment because it's just two steps away from pro-quality!

Chaserthewolf responds:

Good eye man. I noticed that as well before I submitted this. Plus the lines vary as well. His body has a smooth/light appearance while his face is kinda dark. I still like this piece though.

Truly great work. If only some video games looked this awesome...

Gi-go responds:

Would be nice
Thank you!

Needs imperfections

Give the surfaces some realism by adding imperfections. Dust or scratches help a lot, or adding additional objects and zooming out a little.

Spenner responds:

Yeah, I definitely see what you mean- just little details to add a more natural environment for the objects such as dust or dirt or smudges or fingerprints is a good idea; slipped my mind for this one, but it's been noted. Thanks for the review

Not quite...

Sorry for the low score, but I've got specific reasons. I hope this is constructive...

I can't actually see the ships: center ships are in low light, "fighters" are at odd angles, and the others are too far away. *I'd* like to see one well-lit ship in the foreground taking up, like, half of the screen area, and then all of those other ships in the background. I also wouldn't put the camera head-on, maybe try a more isometric angle.

I'm really excited about the content of the image, and I'm ready to give 10/10 on any update you post!

blazer133 responds:

Yea, I understand. after posting it, I did like thel ighting I had set up for this picture, I'll try to come up with something better soon, thanks for the review. :)

I don't spend much time here anymore, but it's nice to see the site still with its wide spread of user-generated content.
